Letters, notes, report, telegrams and invoices primarily pertaining to the administration and operation of the Old Manse Library (Newcastle, N.B.). Reference is made to damage to the furniture at The Square (Newcastle, N.B.) and suggested repairs; vandalism in St. James Presbyterian Church graveyard; the possible relocation of the gazebo from The Square to an indoor area; request for books drawn from the Dept. of Education's supplementary reading list and Beaverbrook's approval of same; the passenger boat "Max Aitken" and Beaverbrook's desire to find the name plate that was affixed to it; gift of books from the Sherrard Collection to be divided among the Bonar Law Bennett and Old Manse Libraries and the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and a gift of books from the library of Rev. Arthur William Teed to the Old Manse--donated by Blanche Teed. The possibility of registering the Newcastle library, theatre and rink as charities is also discussed.

Louise Manny, 1890-1970, provided Beaverbrook's ongoing contact with his native Newcastle. Their correspondence spans from 1946 to his death in 1964. Beaverbrook supported her in her historical research on the Miramichi, her folk song collecting, and her work in the development of the historic burial ground at Wilson's (Beaubair's) Point into a park named The Enclosure. In the early 1950s he appointed her in charge of the Old Manse Library, his boyhood home, where she continued until her death. ...
